Afikomen Cover Pattern
Afikomen Cover Pattern
This is a one-size, knitted afikomen cover, knitted in one piece with light seaming and an added button and optional duplicate stitch pattern. The vertical stripes are done using a fancy laddering technique - it’s much easier than it looks! You have three options for the color work. Choosing to do without, choosing to do it with duplicate stitch, or using the ladder technique. Watch this video tutorial (https://blog.weareknitters.com/knitting-stitches/how-to-a...) to decide whether you’ll use the ladder technique.
I knitted this using self-dyed DK swish yarn from Knitpicks and with US 6/4mm needles. This is a 100% merino wool DK yarn, but you can use any yarn and needle combo that achieves gauge! You need such a small amount of yarn in both colors that it’s a great stash buster or an excuse to make two matching but inverted covers! I used 42g (100yds) of my main color and 12g (30yds) of my contrast color.
This is a VERY beginner friendly pattern, knitted flat, simple seaming, and the option to make it as complicated with color or as simple as you want!
This pattern is free for three reasons:
I didn’t have the time with Passover being so early this year to have it tested, and
I hope that in exchange for a free pattern you’ll donate to a Jewish mental health org (may I recommend http://www.noshameonu.org/donate) and
Passover is my favorite holiday of the year and the best part of it is the seder traditions. I hope that you will be able to make this cover and incorporate it into your own traditions for generations to come!
