Wine Sweater for V Day
Wine Sweater for V Day
Yarn weight: Worsted
Gauge: 18 sts x 22 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm Measure gauge in the round with Chart C (found at end of pattern)
You need:
1 skein of Portobello or other worsted weight yarn in Color A 1 skein of Portobello or other worsted weight yarn in Color B
I recommend choosing colors with a high contrast for better colorwork visibility. You’ll need less than 50g of yarn in each color.
Circular needle 4.5 mm (US 7) 40 inches OR Circular needle 4.5 mm (US 7) 9 inch and 4.5mm DPNs
If you use 9 inch for your circular needles, you will need to switch to DPNs for the neck of the bottle. If you use 40 inch for your circular needles, you will be using magic loop throughout the pattern.
This is a beginner-friendly colorwork pattern with instructions on how to make a cute little sweater for your wine bottle. It’s a perfect Valentine’s Day accessory or gift. The “garment” is knitted in the round from the bottom up, with simple colorwork in the band, which follows Chart A. If you are newer to colorwork or want an easier option, follow chart B. For Chart A, use your preferred method for catching your colorwork in the back of your work.
I used Hobbii Yarn Portobello for sample #1 and Loops & Threads Impeccable Yarn for Sample #2. You can use any worsted weight yarn that achieves gauge. You can use any fiber, but I recommend acrylic, wool or cotton yarn (or a mix of those fibers!). It is up to your preference, but I personally feel that a luxurious yarn like mohair, silk, linen or cashmere may be under-appreciated by an inanimate wine bottle.
