Welcome!

Hello! I am a short-term therapist who specializes in mental health for people with chronic health conditions, age 18+. I specialize in early adulthood (ages 18-35) and in GI conditions, but have experience working across the spectrum of chronic illness, including chronic pain, migraine, and women’s health as well as infertility due to a chronic illness. My favorite populations to work with are people of all ages with IBS who experience high anxiety around their symptoms, and people in early adulthood who are experiencing infertility due to chronic illness.

What does therapy with me look like?

I use a mix of CBT and ACT approaches, with a focus on self-compassion and shame work. I am also certified in hypnotherapy and gut-directed hypnotherapy. I firmly believe in the power of vulnerability and self compassion and as a therapist I approach each client and each session with unconditional positive regard (from the client-centered therapy approach). I also believe strongly in the power of knowing what is going on inside on a physiological and psychological level to better understand and normalize our experience, and sessions with me include education about these processes. For many people who have had to educate their therapist about their chronic illnesses, my goal is to provide relief around having a therapist who understands more your chronic illnesses than you may even know! I only provide virtual therapy at this time.

What does short-term therapy mean?

I provide short-term therapy with a max of 20 sessions. Many clients who work with me have a separate full time therapist or are referred by their doctor and are hoping to work with someone who both understands the impact and experience of chronic illness and is specialized in mental health specifically related to chronic illness. After working together for 5 months in this highly specialized way, many clients feel ready to finish therapy and take a long break. Other clients find that they really enjoy the work we do and feel they could benefit from ongoing work, and if this is the case I provide referrals to long-term therapists who I believe would be a good fit.

How do you know that you’re a good fit for my services?

If you are struggling with mental health related to a chronic health condition, and especially if you are experiencing high amounts of anxiety and low quality of life related to health symptoms, you will be a great fit for what I provide. If you have never done therapy before, or if you have found that your current therapist doesn’t quite “get it,” and you’re hoping to work with someone that has an intimate knowledge of chronic illness and hospital systems, then you will be a great fit. I also work alongside your full-time therapist if you have a therapist you love and would like to stay with while we complete our work together. I am also a good fit for someone who is specifically seeking out an LGBTQ therapist.
